Fourth of July

Happy Independence Day!  The Fourth of July ranks as one of my favorite holidays.  I mean, what beats family and friends, sunshine, barbeque food, and fireworks?  It's the perfect combination for fun!

Bron has been raving about his family's annual Fourth of July picnic since we were first married.  For one reason or another, we've never been able to make it.  But finally, the stars (and stripes!) aligned this year and I'm happy to say the party lived up to the hype.

We started our Independence Day at a ward breakfast before hopping in the car to make the trek to Rexburg.  We arrived just in time to join Bron's extended family for lunch outside.  Ahh, how I love food!

^^These two cousins are best friends and trouble makers.^^
We found them pigging out on chips underneath the table.

Next up!  The inevitable water fight.  Note: Nelsons do not get even; they get ahead!  We began with water balloon target practice.  The guys volunteered to be sitting ducks.

I took a shot at Bron and nailed him right in the hip!  Yeah!
I love this picture!  Leah is "getting" her mom.

Then the real fun began.  Hoses and buckets suddenly became fair game as the competitive nature of the family was spontaneously unleashed.

Then sly little brother Call made his unexpected move!

Not pictured: Myself soaked to the bone.  I was sabotaged.  Bron held me back while Chade drowned me with the hose.  I suppose Bron got his payback for that one water balloon hit!

This family sure knows how to celebrate a holiday.  Thanks for a blast of an afternoon!

Long live the Red, White, and Blue!  I am grateful to live in the United States, to be blessed with a richness of life few know.  It was the politicians themselves who wrote the amendments to the Constitution, limiting the power of government--limiting their own power.  It was an event unprecedented in the history of the world.  The United States is truly a unique country--an inspired country--and I am proud to be an American.

  2. Looks like a wonderful 4th!!! Nothing's better than a water balloon fight...which looks like turned into water buckets! We do have so much to be thankful for in this country. Happy belated Independence Day!
