Last Week: Instagram Style

5.19.2014

Since I'm in the habit of recording every detail of our lives, let me take a minute to fill you in on what's been going on here lately.  It was a long week between Bron being out of town and then feeling under the weather for a few days, but we survived!

::  Fruit Pizza!  A sugar cookie with a yummy cream cheese spread and topped with fruit.  Not only delicious, but pretty to look at too!  I made three for the first time: two for a special activity for my Achievement Day girls and their mamas at church and one for us.  It was kind of our dinner one evening.

::  Some old college friends were in town for a job interview!  Last Thursday, Hailey and I spent the day playing and exploring the area with our combined three little boys.  So fun.  Then Friday evening, the four of us (Dusty and Hailey, Bron and me) went out on a dinner date.  We caught outside seats along the canyon rim.  The weather was warm.  The view was incredible.  The food tasted delectable.  And the conversation was great!

::  Little friends enjoyed an evening exploring the old Rock Creek Station and eating popsicles.  The five of them are a riot together.

::  Saturday I was asked to photograph the saddest funeral.  A fireman left behind a wife and three little children due to brain cancer.  I'd never been to a Catholic funeral before.  It was very somber.  I can't imagine being in that woman's shoes.  My heart goes out to her!  I came home absolutely emotionally drained.  Hold your loved ones tight!

::  Playing in the backyard!  The boys like "hiding" in the weeds and pretending to be baby bears... or pretending to hunt bears.  Also, the teepee is just as fun and magical as I hoped it would be!

Cuddle Mommy

5.16.2014

There are days like today when I swear I am going to sign Levi up for the military... like now!  He goes on unauthorized seek and destroy missions that keep me bouncing from one battle ground mess to the next.  I'm sure our armed forces could utilize those kind of skills.  Levi is ALL BOY!  Literally, if he is awake, he is moving.

Maybe that's why when Levi tells me, "Cuddle Mommy", I immediately become a puddle on the floor.  Surprisingly, against all odds for this busy boy, Levi loves to cuddle!  A soft blue blanket and my embrace are his comfort.

*Swoon*  My heart over-floweth.

So we often snuggle up on the couch together and read books while Jed is in preschool.  Or sometimes he sits on my lap while I fold laundry.  But my favorite kind of cuddles are bedtime cuddles.  We sit in a chair in the dark of his bedroom.  Levi is wrapped in a blanket, his head on my chest.  I sing a lullaby and we simply just sit still in silence together.  I hold him, smell his hair, and listen to his breaths become deeper as he drifts off to sleep.  There is no feeling more tender or precious.  These are the moments I live for as a mother.

I am totally, completely, and wholeheartedly wrapped around this little boy's tiny pinky finger.  It's his curly hair, his mischievous grin, and the way he works me over by insisting, "Cuddle Mommy"--my two new favorite words.

Currently: Mother's Day and Other Happenings

^^Totally framing this^^

Thankful for: A wonderful Mother's Day weekend!  It all started with a spontaneous girls' night out on Friday when Dani suggested we go see the new movie, Mom's Night Out.  So we caught the 9:10PM showing and laughed till we cried.  The satire of motherhood was spot on.  How could every one of us not relate to an overwhelming messy house, the feeling of utter exhaustion, or better yet, "having a moment"?  We've all been there!  So though the movie became quite predictable, it still had us all in tears by the end with its Christian message: Yes we're imperfect human beings, but that doesn't mean we are not enough.  I think it really made a difference in how I perceived Mother's Day this year!  A big thanks to our husbands for that last minute break.  It was well worth it.

The rest of the weekend was low-key and spent mostly around home.  I knew it was going to be a great day when Bron allowed me to peacefully sleep past 9:00AM on Sunday morning.  It doesn't get any better than that!  I love my job.  Even though these two little boys deplete my sanity at times, they grow my heart and soul everyday.  Motherhood is my life's greatest blessing.

 ^^At least I tried, right?^^

Excited about: Gel nails.  I've been having a lot of fun this spring painting my nails; it's just a little something extra for me that makes me feel more feminine.  Unfortunately, we all know maintaining pretty nails takes a little time and effort... until I came upon this cute girl's blog post.  I was suddenly inspired!  After doing a little more "research", I was determined to do my own gel nails at home too.  So last Saturday I dragged the boys around town shopping with me.  We found my nail supplies at Sally's, an old office lamp at the thrift store, and a UV light bulb at the pet store.  Voila!  An at home manicure that will last two weeks.  I am thrilled!  Now all I need are more colors.  Hehe.

Reading: Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent.  I don't read much anymore these days (who has time for that?), but I got to read Divergent on the weekend I flew solo to California last month.  The series is too good not to finish!

I Confess: I started potty training Levi... and six days later I gave up!  He just isn't ready?!?  I want to be done with diapers sooo bad!  Really, I tried following a supposed "potty training guru's" regimen for three days.  When that wasn't working, I switched tactics.  I then sat the boy on the potty every 30 minutes.  Not. One. Success. All. Week. Long.  Okay, one half success.  Levi tells us after he's made a mess, but makes absolutely no effort to run to the potty or stop the flow.  After he pooped in the shower this morning, I officially threw in the towel.  We'll come back to this in the fall after he turns two.  I am so exhausted.  But at least he was super cute in tiny underwear, right?

Recent happenings as recorded in pictures:

Jed wanted me to make him a rocket one morning.  Out of paper, he insisted, with buttons.  The left picture is our finished product: a paper bag with blue buttons glued onto the front and red tail fins on the back.  (Mother of the year, right?  Thank you!  Haha.)  It's been so much fun to watch him play.  I punch in his trajectory and count down from five to blast-off.  Then he runs around the room at breakneck speed until he crashes.  It's super cute.

Jed also has a new obsession with pirates.  He needed a pirate hat one morning so I tied a bandana around his head.  No kidding, he naps with it on!  He uses the trampoline as his ship and called me Captain Mommy today at lunch.  After endless questions about what pirates do, I started to teach him some new words.  He now eats in the galley, pees in the head, and tells Levi, swab the deck ya scalawag!  (Translation: Clean up the toys!)  I love this kid's imagination.

^^The first flower Jed picked for me this year.  He asked me to put it in a "water pot".  Haha  And Jed "fixing" my wobbly chair for me.  So sweet.^^

The above pictures are what happened in the five minutes it took me to reload the dishwasher.  Despite the cool drizzly weather, Jed and Levi escaped out of the house to play with their trucks in the mud.  Levi was pants-less.  But no matter, he had a hat!  I couldn't help laughing out loud and grabbing the camera.

Thinking about: Adding a 3rd baby to this wonderful craziness we call our life.  I bounce back and forth from being absolutely sure and looking forward to feeling that miracle of a baby kick inside me again, to dreading pregnancy, the sleepless months, and the inevitable strain a new baby puts on our marriage.  Plus, I barely have a handle on two kids--if I have a handle at all.  What makes me think I can handle three?  But I WANT three children.  And I want them to be fairly close in age.  Not to mention, I swoon over every newborn I see these days.  Bron insists that by the way I'm taking this so seriously, I'm ready.  I guess we'll see!  Good thing I trust the Lord has a little say in this too.

And that pretty much sums us up!
I hope all you other mothers had a wonderful weekend as well.

Push the button, hop on over, and join the fun!

A {Super Cute} Video for Mother's Day

5.08.2014

Can I make a confession? I don't really look forward to Mother's Day.  I haven't pin-pointed why just yet: too much hype followed by disappointment?  The inevitable guilt I feel because I know I could be a better mother?  I'm not sure.  So this year, instead of focusing on what I don't like about the holiday, I decided to put my energy into making a little video. We recorded it last Sunday afternoon and I put it together during nap time. It's very imperfect (I'm not a videographer, especially with a GoPro!), but I know someday I'll miss my boys' little voices, their funny runs, and the way things are now.  This life we have here is a good one.  I love being my little boys' mama.  I count Jed and Levi among my greatest blessings.  They make me a better person everyday.  Better yet, they make me happy.  I think I'll cherish this video forever.  Enjoy!

Joe + Karmen: My Favorite Wedding Pictures

5.07.2014

Nearly a month later, I finally have my brother's wedding pictures edited.  Woohoo!  I wish I could relive that wonderful busy weekend over and over again.  I had so much fun--letting my hair down and sticking my toes in the ocean.  California will always be home for this girl.  Looking over these pictures, I can't help missing my family!  I'm happy for my brother who found his best friend and life-long companion in this beautiful Hungarian woman named Karmen.  She is sweet and outgoing and seems to be well matched for Joe's personality.  It is so obvious they are in love.  I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for them!  Thanks for sharing your special day with me.  I love you both and can't wait to see you again.

So without further ado, a peek at my favorite pictures from the day.  (Also, anyone have any idea why blogger sometimes uploads photos darker than they actually are?  It's driving me crazy!)

Happy 7 Years to Us!

^^Hiking Upper Palisades back when we were dating circa 2006^^

That man you see up there makes me happy.  I really can't imagine spending my life with anyone else because I just don't see how my life could be better than it already is.  (The grass isn't greener on the other side, you know.)  We've put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this marriage of ours, refining our relationship into the gem it is today.

I am truly a lucky girl to be married to such a genuinely good guy.  No, he's not perfect, but Bron works hard to be the best husband and father he can possibly be.  He respects me, encourages me, takes care of me, listens to me, and showers me with "I love you's" multiple times a day.  What more can a girl possibly ask for?

Marriage is awesome.  Most days, anyway.  I live with my best friend.  We dream and plan and work together.  We make small sacrifices for each other.  We learn and share in absolutely every aspect of our lives.  It is a truly intimate relationship and I am grateful I get to call this man mine for forever.

Happy 7th Anniversary!
I love you so much, Bron.

Now let's go celebrate!
