Farmer Jed

Now that summer is here, it seems we do more playing than working!  And that's just how like it.  However, there are a few folks I know who work harder in the summer than during any other time of the year: the Nelsons on their dairy.  When we visited over Memorial Day the chores still had to be done, of course, except this time Uncle Call invited Jed to help feed the calves one morning.  Jed was ecstatic!  Call found Jed a pair of tiny old coveralls just his size and a pair of rubber boots.  (What makes things in tiny sizes so darn cute?)  Really, Jed's first hands-on experience on the dairy had to be documented!  Jed was busting at the seams with excitement and enthusiasm.

Thank you Call for being so patient and making a little boys' day.  I couldn't ask for a better example for my son.  He really looks up to you!

A family farm is a novelty these days and I feel so lucky that my boys can get a taste for it first hand.  However, oppositely, my boys will also get to experience the endless possibilities for exploration and adventure upon the open ocean with my dad, Commander.  It's kind of nuts to think about.  (And very cool.)

On the trip home, Bron and I discussed how absolutely bizarre it is that we wound up married to each other.  I mean, I'm a California girl at heart.  I love the beach and sunshine.  And Bron is an Idaho boy through and through.  He grew up in the smallest of towns working on his family's dairy.  Both are wonderful lifestyles, but they're so opposite!  How did we ever mesh?  Luckily, it was easy to fall wholeheartedly in love with the idea of a quiet country home and a man who has the best work ethic of anyone I know and treats me like a queen.
